1. Oil Leakage Is Not Always Caused by Seal Aging

When oil leakage occurs, do not replace the seal immediately without identifying the cause.

Step 1: Identify the Exact Leakage Location

First, determine exactly where the lubricant is escaping.
Key areas to inspect include:

Step 2: Inspect the Seal Condition

Check whether the seal shows signs of:

Step 3: Inspect the Shaft-to-Seal Contact Area

At first glance, oil leakage may appear to be nothing more than lubricant escaping from a specific location.
However, if leakage continues, the lubricant level may gradually decrease. This can lead to insufficient lubrication inside the assembly, increasing friction and wear of critical components and potentially affecting the normal operation of the chain sprocket shaft assembly.
Therefore, when evaluating oil leakage, the key question is not simply:
“How much oil is leaking?”
The more important question is:
“Why is it leaking?”
Only by identifying the underlying cause can repeated leakage and unnecessary component replacement be avoided.

Reliable operation of a chain sprocket shaft assembly depends on effective sealing, proper shaft surface condition, healthy bearing operation, and correct lubrication.

Assembly quality, chain sprocket shaft wear, bearing condition, lubricant level, and actual working conditions can all affect sealing performance.
Therefore, equipment maintenance should go beyond the simple approach of:
"Oil leakage → Replace the seal."
A better approach is:
Locate the leakage → Inspect the components → Analyze the operating conditions → Identify the root cause.
Only by finding why the leakage occurs can the problem be addressed more effectively.
Preventive maintenance is always better than corrective repair.
